How does tutoring work?

I start with an Interest Interview. In this interview I will listen for the child’s passion areas and assess the child’s current reading level. I use formal and informal methods to conduct the assessment.

Then, I will map out a customized curriculum where I will draw on her library of hundreds of children’s books and activities to provide the child with a structured, but fun, learning experience. Sessions can run from 30-60 minutes, depending on the child.

I will incorporate hands-on activities such as cooking (reading recipes), music (reading lyrics) and drama (reader’s theater). These activities help the child understand the meaning behind the words, and why there is a benefit in being a strong reader.

Children thrive under this method because they know that their interests and unique talents are valued.
